From School of Hard Knocks to Academic Advisor

Juan Juarez, 42, who was hired last December as a UNM-Taos academic advisor, is living a life he never dreamed possible. He’s eager to start helping current and prospective students get the most out of their lives — especially for young people who find themselves under the weight of questions such as, “What am I doing?” “Where am I going?” “Who do I want to be?” When it comes to exiting a dark, uncertain road and taking a positive, life-changing course, Juarez knows what’s he talking about.

UNM-Taos Culinary Arts Instructor Karla Nardi and her taste buds are well-traveled. This spring was the first time she’s taught an international cuisine course for an entire semester. Having spent time in other countries helps in teaching not only about how to prepare dishes from other lands but about the people who live in those lands as well.
UNM-Taos Celebrates the 2022 Commencement Ceremonies

The 2022 University of New Mexico-Taos Commencement Ceremonies will take place again in person on Thursday, May 12 for High School Equivalency graduates and Friday, May 13 for Certificate and Associate degree graduates. Each ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. at the Sagebrush Inn and Conference Center.
English Language/Immigrant Support Comes to UNM-Taos

This spring, Jennifer “Jenn” Wood became the new English Language Education Specialist/Immigrant Support on campus.
Wood has worked with adults and youth in diverse educational settings for 30 years as a teacher, instructional coach, workshop facilitator, public historian, and researcher. She is a qualified teacher with a focus on English Language Acquisition and holds a Master of Education in International Education.
