Meet Maggie Duval, the new Film and Digital Media Arts (FDMA) staff member who will serve as the program’s Multimedia Services Technician.

A freelance web developer since 1995, Maggie joined Polycot Associates, a web development cooperative in Austin, Texas, as a member-owner in 2016. In the last few years, she has transitioned from WordPress-focused development to overseeing HR/Admin/Finances, leading sales marketing efforts, providing client support and training, and business development.

Before Polycot, with The Futures Lab, Inc., she researched and played a crucial role in developing interactive educational kiosks for client-specific experiential workshops and events. She co-developed the curriculum and coded The Future of Mobile Learning course, a part of the technology and media master’s program at the University of Agder, Norway.

As a co-founder of the nonprofit Learning Innovations in Future Education (LIFE), Maggie focused on the research and development of participative approaches to the evolving needs of education. Notably, she co-created and executive produced two STEAM3: The Future of Experiential Learning events at the University of Texas, Austin, in 2014 and Georgia State University, Atlanta, in 2015.

At Plutopia Productions, she co-conceived, developed, and deployed—with a unique group of scientists, technologists, and artists—unique, immersive "sense events." These included Plutopia at South by Southwest (SXSW), The Plutopia FutureMusic Summit, and other groundbreaking experiences. Her executive production expertise covered logistics, personnel, budgeting, marketing, promotion, web development, and sponsorships.

From SXSW Interactive to The Austin Forum on Technology and Society and the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) Future Maker Day in London, Maggie has shared her insights on the future of education, maker culture, and thriving in the new economy.

Her talks have explored integrating student-centered learning systems, emerging professions, and the impact of maker culture on emerging professions. (Maker culture is a DIY community that encourages people to create and design their own objects, crafts, or computer code.)

Welcome to our Lobo familia, Maggie!
