Educational Technology

The Office of Educational Technology provides technical and instructional training and support to faculty and staff utilizing institutionally supported technologies for web-enhanced, hybrid, and online courses.

The OET also conducts regular reviews of instructor’s Canvas courses to ensure compliance with institutional standards and to promote best practices. The OET is a division of the Office of Academic Affairs.

OET Services

• Develop and maintain the UNM-Taos Canvas course template to meet all college standards and best practices, and encourage its use by all instructors
• Deliver full support to instructors for UNM’s Learning Management System (Canvas)
• Offer instructor assistance with course planning and instructional design
• Deliver workshops and webinars on various topics related to UNM Canvas, online learning, university-supported tools, and accessibility
• Provide technical support for online teaching and learning technologies
• Conduct course evaluations and assessments aligned with the QM Rubric and current best practices

Course Template

OET provides the UNM-Taos Canvas Course Template, available to all UNM-Taos instructors upon request or downloadable via the Canvas Commons area. This course template meets the requirements of the UNM-Taos Office of Academic Affairs.

Distance Education Regulations

There are state and federal regulations in place to ensure students are protected and receive quality education in online courses. These regulations require disclosures on professional licensure programs, regular and substantive interaction in online courses, and authorization to offer coursework in other states. The University of New Mexico participates in the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA), which allows UNM to offer courses over state lines to other participating states and territories. UNM Online provides additional information on accreditation and other distance education compliance information.
