Mayra Gutierrez Ramirez

Hello, my name is Mayra Gutierrez, I am a first-generation graduate from University of New Mexico that became the first to achieve a post-secondary education in my family. I have been at UNM-Taos for over 15 years, guiding students through higher education.
Pursuing a college education is affordable, accessible and achievable.
Con ganas, hard work, determination, and support from the right people, I learned to persist and push forward. I know everyone has the ability to be excellent. Never give up on yourself or your dreams; we are capable of achieving anything we set our mind and attention too. It’s important to dream big, set goals and follow your heart; nothing is too small or too big when you are determined and persistent.
Juan Juarez

Hello! I’m Juan Juarez, and I’ve proudly been part of this campus since 2006, first as a student and now as a student success specialist. My journey has had its challenges, but by setting clear goals and staying committed, I achieved my degrees. As a first-generation student, I pursued education not just for myself, but for my family—to build a brighter future for us all. Take pride in who you are and in your school. If you’re contemplating your next step, remember that we at TRIO SSS are here for you and understand your experiences. I turned my back on gangs to dedicate myself to my education, and if I can make that choice, so can you! Continue to believe in yourselves and work toward your dreams—you absolutely have what it takes!
