UNM-Taos rents its historic Bataan Hall facility to members of the community. The hall, located in downtown Taos adjacent to Rio Grande Hall, features modern amenities and a flexible space in a stately adobe building that dates back to the 1930s.

Bataan Hall offers a stage, state-of-the-art audio/visual system, and seating for 250-450 guests. The site provides the perfect setting for meetings, community events, stage performances, graduations and weddings.

With a downtown location on Civic Plaza Drive, Bataan Hall is close to shopping, restaurants, art galleries, Taos Plaza, and Kit Carson Park.

Rental Terms, Payments and Conditions

Payment and Security Deposit

A $250 security deposit is required to be paid within 2 weeks of confirming and signing the quotation. A purchase order for the total amount of the security deposit and rental fees will be accepted in lieu of a check. Upon clearance walk through after your event, the $250 security deposit will be eligible for refund pending no damages.

Payment in full for the event is required no later than 1 week before the scheduled event is to take place. Failure to provide payment or a purchase order before the event may result in the loss of security deposit and cancellation of the event reservation by UNM-Taos.

Event cancellation of the reservation my occur up to one week before the scheduled event with a full refund of funds paid to date.

Cancellation less than one week before the scheduled event may result in the loss of the security deposit.

All security deposits should be made by check or money order. At this time, credit cards are not accepted for the security deposit or payment in full.

Fee Structure

Fee structure is for all reservations made after Sep. 1, 2025.

Weekday events (Monday– Thursday)

Weekend events (Friday– Sunday)
$1,200 / day

Qualifying Discounts

Government (local, state, and federal) agencies and non-profit organizations are eligible for discounts depending on the number of days and seasonality of the reservations. Contact our UNM-Taos events coordinator for details.

Usage Policies

Smoking/Vaping

UNM-Taos is a smoke-free campus. No smoking or vaping is allowed on UNM-Taos properties. Failure to abide by this rule will result in forfeiture of the security deposit.

Firearms

Firearms and weapons of all kinds are strictly prohibited from all UNM-Taos properties at all times. Violations will result in the loss of security deposits and further rental privileges.

Decorations

Decorations are allowed on walls; however, no nails, no tacks, and no tape are allowed to affix decorations to the adobe walls. Soft poster putty can be used to hang decorations and must be removed at the end of the event.

Alcohol Service

Alcohol service is allowed as long as the following conditions are met. Violations of these rules may lead to forfeiture of the security deposit and prohibition from future rental opportunities.

  • No alcohol sales may take place on the premises under any circumstances.
  • Open (or prepaid) bars that serve only wine, beer, and ciders are allowed.
  • Only licensed servers and businesses can serve alcohol.
  • All businesses or persons serving alcohol at Bataan Hall must present 1 week before the event the following information to the events management of UNM-Taos; a copy of their business license, alcohol license, and proof of liability insurance. Also, the business or person serving is required to obtain all local city permits and provide copies to UNM-Taos.
  • At no time are minors below the state mandated legal age to ever be served or allowed to consume alcohol on UNM-Taos property.
  • Renter must contract a licensed and bonded security company to monitor the event and premises for the entirety of the event if alcohol is served. Proof of license and liability insurance must be provided to UNM-Taos no later than one week before the event.
  • Renter of facility assumes full liability for damages to both property and personal claims from alcohol consumption by attendees of the event or parties receiving damages by the attendees of the event.

Catering

UNM-Taos requires approval of all catering services provided on the premises for any event. Caterer will provide proof of liability insurance and a copy of their safe serve certification no later than one week before the event. Caterer and renter of facility assume all liability for claims, demands, damages, actions, causes of action, relating to or resulting from sickness, injury, damage, death or loss resulting from the service of food and beverages at the event on UNM-Taos premises.

There are no kitchen facilities available on site.

Clean Up

UNM-Taos asks that the room be left in reasonable condition after the event. Failure to meet these conditions may result in the forfeiture of security deposit. This includes performing the following clean up responsibilities:

  • All trash cans are emptied and trash deposited in the indicated dumpster at the end of the event.
  • All table linens are to be collected and left near the side entrance to the parking lot for cleaning.
  • UNM-Taos personnel will break down tables and chairs as part of the rental service.
    All decorations must be removed and disposed of and the walls cleared of all affixing materials.
  • All AV equipment must be returned to proper chargers and shut down appropriately.

Close of Event

Arrangements to close the event space will be made during the walk-through. At that time, an inspection of the premises will be conducted to verify refund of the security deposit.
