The UNM-Taos Office of Academic Affairs is entrusted with the comprehensive oversight of our academic mission. OAA is pivotal in shaping and advancing the academic framework and operations of the branch campus, ensuring that every aspect of our educational environment fosters excellence and innovation.

Academic Leadership and Administration

OAA manages the full spectrum of academic responsibilities, including:

Curriculum Oversight

Providing leadership and guidance for the university’s curriculum across credit-bearing and non-credit-bearing, academic and career technical programs, while championing new curricular initiatives that respond to evolving educational and workforce needs.

Faculty Management

Overseeing the processes of faculty hiring, retention, and promotion to ensure that our educators are among the most qualified and dedicated in higher education.

Academic Support Services

Providing leadership and coordination for a wide range of programs and services—including tutoring, testing services, the Taos Education and Career Center, Kids Campus, Dual Enrollment, library resources, and other learning and support initiatives—designed to enhance academic achievement, promote personal development, and foster student success across all aspects of the university experience.

Student Advisement and Learning

Coordinating academic advisement and continuous improvement in teaching methods to foster an engaging and effective learning environment.

Departmental Administration

Managing all academic departments, programs, and associated faculty, ensuring that each unit aligns with our institution’s high standards.

Leadership Commitment

The Dean, as the Chief Academic Officer of UNM-Taos, provides visionary leadership that drives our academic mission forward. Under this guidance, OAA maintains a dynamic academic ecosystem that supports both students and faculty in achieving outstanding success.

A Community of Excellence

We are proud to have a passionate and highly qualified faculty who are dedicated to teaching and committed to individual student success. With an average class size of just 15 students, our faculty can offer personalized attention and foster meaningful academic engagement, ensuring that every student benefits from a supportive and enriching educational experience.

At UNM-Taos, we believe that excellence in education is built on a foundation of dedicated leadership, innovative academic programs, and a thriving community focused on teaching and learning. The Office of Academic Affairs remains at the heart of this mission, continuously driving initiatives that enhance academic quality and student achievement.

Faculty Union Representation

Faculty members at UNM are supported by the United Academics of the University of New Mexico, the officially recognized faculty union. UA-UNM works to ensure fair working conditions, advocate for faculty rights, and promote excellence in teaching, research, and service across the University.

To determine your representation status or to learn more about collective bargaining agreements, please refer to the Faculty Bargaining Units, Contracts, and Agreements page. This resource provides detailed information on bargaining unit classifications, current contracts, and relevant union policies.

The University is committed to fostering a collaborative and respectful working environment, and UA-UNM plays a key role in supporting this mission for our faculty community.
