The UNM-Taos Department of Fine Arts, Film and Digital Media inspires students to tap into their creative potential by engaging in rich dialogue on contemporary art and art history. Students learn traditional foundations, contemporary approaches, interdisciplinary practices, and conceptual problem solving. A core belief of the Art Department is to help students understand the ever-changing nature of art, its affects on contemporary culture, and the discovery of their place in the global art community.

In addition to serving students who want to explore their artistic practice as a community practice, the Art Department offers certificates and degrees:

Associate of Fine Arts

This degree program is designed to support the development of professional studio artists, teachers, and students interested in obtaining a Bachelor of Fine Art. This degree articulates with the Bachelor of Fine Art in the College of Fine Art at UNM-Albuquerque and most other universities.

Associate of Film, and Digital Media Arts

This degree program instructs the student in graphics, animation, and multimedia using digital tools to produce projects for screen display, the World Wide Web, and traditional printing. Students are prepared for employment in the fields of graphic, multimedia, and web-based content. This degree articulates with the Bachelor of Arts in Media Arts at UNM-Albuquerque.
