UNM-Taos CEO Finalists

University of New Mexico Acting President Chaouki Abdallah has invited three finalists to campus to interview for the position of Chief Executive Officer of the Taos Branch.  Each candidate will meet with faculty, staff, students and community members both in Taos and Albuquerque during their visit.

The finalists are Dr. Patrick Valdez, Dr. Teresita Aguilar, and Dr. Mark VanDenHende. 

 

Open forums for each candidate have been scheduled as follows.

 

Dr. Patrick Valdez

Dr. Valdez is an accomplished higher education executive with 20 years of experience in developing and executing academic and student success programs. He currently serves as the Dean of the Undergraduate College and Associate Professor at the College of Mount Saint Vincent, he has held this position since 2014. He was previously The Senior Academic Policy Analyst at Lehman College – City University of New York and the Director of College Access and Success Initiatives at the Association of Public and Land‐Grant Universities. He holds a PhD in Higher Education Administration from the University of Texas at Austin.

Dr. Teresita Aguilar

Dr. Aguilar has over 30 years of experience in higher education.  She served as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at New Mexico Highlands University from 2014-2016.  She previously served as Academic Dean for the Professional Studies and Worden School of Social Service at Our Lady of the Lake University.  She earned her Ph.D. in College and University Teaching from the University of North Texas.

Dr. Mark Van Den Hende

Dr. Van Den Hende, currently Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs at Bermuda College, has 20 years of progressively responsible community college experience.  Prior to Bermuda College he served as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean for Faculty at South Georgia State College.  Dr. Van Den Hende holds a Ph.D. from Washington State, where he taught as an adjunct for five years.
