Current UNM-Taos
Sustainability Initiatives
UNM-Taos is rapidly emerging as a National and International Showcase for Sustainability, going well beyond one campus building or initiative to develop a holistic campus ecosystem.  As one of the newest colleges in the United States, we are making use of the rare opportunity to build a campus with extensive sustainable features, serving as a living/learning laboratory for professionals, students and children in New Mexico and beyond.  The following are some of the current sustainable features & initiatives at UNM-Taos.

Making the final two phases [Klauer Campus development] sustainable is a must….. because it promotes good health and better learning.

Recycling

  • look for the recycle bins in offices and at copy machines - ASK if you do not see one!
  • please use the new recycling bins which are located in all campus buildings.
  • new copy paper purchasing was partially avoided this semester because of the increased awareness via our educational efforts this fall.  Thanks to everyone for reusing first, then recycling paper!
  • Initiating buying recycled paper/supplies, returning lasar printer ink cartridges for refurbishing
  • Reducing energy use turn lights off, computers off hours, water conservation
Replacement lights are more efficient, same brightness for less wattage
  • Purchasing less toxic cleaners if possible
