Applying for Federal financial aid is FREE. You
do not need to pay for this service. The Financial Aid Office at
UNM-Taos is equipped to handle all of your financial aid application
needs, even if you are not planning to attend UNM-Taos.
Financial Aid awards are need-based. Your need is determined by
the income information on you Federal Income Tax return from the
prior calendar year. If you plan to enroll in the Fall of 2004,
use the information from your 2003 Federal Income Tax Return.

Complete a Free Application for Federal Aid (FAFSA). You must
complete a FAFSA form every year that you are enrolled in order
to receive financial aid. The priority deadline for submitting
the FAFSA form is March 1st. If you apply by the priority deadline,
you may be eligible for additional financial aid benefits.

Your application will take between 3 and 4 weeks to process.
When your application process is complete you will receive a
copy of your Student Aid Report (SAR) or a SAR Acknowledgement
in the mail or via e-mail if you provided your e-mail address
on the application form.

Make sure that your UNM admissions application has been submitted
and that all necessary high school and/or college transcripts
are on their way or have been received by the Registrar.
Call The UNM-Taos Registrar at (505) 737-6212 to check on your
transcripts.

When you receive the Student Aid Report (SAR), call (505) 737-6200
to make an appointment with a UNM-Taos Financial Aid advisor.
Below is a list of documents to bring with you to this appointment.

Register for classes during the normal registration period even
if you have not received your SAR or other confirmation of Financial
Aid awards.

Financial Aid is intended to help students
pay for their college education.
Financial Aid CAN NOT be awarded and monies
CAN NOT be disbursed until all steps have been properly completed.
Students are responsible for paying all
charges relating to their classes including tuition, books, course
fees, and course supplies from their Financial Aid award monies.
