| James has been working at UNM-Taos since 1994 as adjunct professor, Dean of Instruction and Associate Professor of Construction Technology. He serves as head of the Trades and Industries Academy and teaches Woodworking and Environmental Science courses. | |

| James has been a professional artist in wood since 1975. His career began as a carpenter, then cabinetmaker, door manufacturer, furniture designer and finally wood sculptor. His work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally. | |
