Why College?
Summary of the Power Point Presentation
First, we want you to recognize that YOU HAVE the POWER to positively influence your future. You, more than anyone else, will determine what you will accomplish. Each of us is the product or result of the decisions we make.
Second, we are here to encourage you to continue your education after high school. The jobs of the future will require an education beyond high school.
The more you learn; the more you earn.
Third, an average college graduate will earn significantly more than the average high school graduate.
Forth, your options are many. You can get an education anywhere, most of us will choose to continue our schooling. Here are some of the many options:
On-the-Job Training (OJT) and internships programs.
Vocational, trade school or community college (Certificate or Associate Programs)
Military
Four-year college or university
Fifth, financial help is available in the form of federal and state financial aid (grants, work study and loans) and scholarships.
Sixth, your best choice is to prepare so as keep all your post high school options open by taking good, challenging and difficult courses. The harder the courses you take; the higher you will score on tests! (ASVAB, PSAT, SAT, SAT II's, ACT, Placement Tests,,,)
Do Positive Self Development
Read, study, gain knowledge, develop good thinking skills
and acquire good, positive personal characteristics
Seek help when you need it. The staff of UNM-Taos Career and College Prep Program is available, and of course, you have your school counselor, teachers, coaches, friends and parents.
