Associate of Arts in Education

The Associate of Arts in Education is designed for the student who is planning to transfer to a baccalaureate program upon completion, or who wants to work as an elementary school aide. Transfer students need to be aware of the Core Curriculum and college graduation requirements a UNM Albuquerque or any other four-year institution they plan to transfer to. It is the student's responsibility to contact her/his academic advisor before registering for courses in the degree program. All courses for the Education AA degree will transfer to UNM-Albuquerque, and must be passed with a grade of C or better. See below for specific teaching field requirements.

TEACHING FIELD PREPARATION:   
   
24-36 semester hours in one teacing field are required in a degree program at UNM Albuquerque for teacher preparation licensure. These hours should be planned with an academic advisor. The following courses are recommended lower division preparation for Teaching Fields, and must be passed with a B or better. A teaching field is not required for completion of the AA degree. Note: Not all of these courses will be offered on a regular basis at UNM Taos.
