ADN-RN Nursing Program Requirements

Listed below are the program selection requirements, pre-requisites, program coursework and contact information. UNM-Taos reserves the right to make changes as needed.

Nursing Program requirements to be eligible for the selection process:

• It is a requirement to work with an academic advisor to ensure proper preparation for application to the Nursing Program. Please call 575-737-6202 or email an advisor at aca@unm.edu
• Official transcripts from High School and all pre-requisite courses submitted with program application.  GED  accepted.
• Completed prerequisites with an overall GPA of 2.5 or better, and no less than a letter grade of C in any course.
• Computer literacy.
• ESL students required to take the TOEFL exam. Contact Nursing Program Director for information.
• Current CPR card for health care providers through an American Heart Association care provider, Basic Life Support (BLS).
• Teas V test as the Nursing admission test. A benchmark score of 64 is the minimum total adjusted score with a minimum of 50% in reading, math, science and English to qualify in order to apply. The student may take the test a maximum of 2 times. Practice test, specific testing information and study book are available at www.atitesting.com
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Certificate within the last five years. 
• Background check, fingerprinting and drug screening upon acceptance to the program.
• Letter of Intent and Current Resume (see application check list for details).
• Physical examination, current immunizations, and proof of Health Insurance upon program acceptance.
• All science and math courses need to be completed within the last 5 years. The required pre-requisites for Nutrition 244 and Bio 237 are Bio 123 and Chem 111L, 121, 121L or equivalent. Math proficiency must be established by successfully passing Math 120 or taking with Compass Test with a passing score. Please check with CASA for details.
• Completing the admission requirements makes the applicant eligible to apply to the UNM-Taos competitive ADN Nursing Program, but does not assure admission.
