Elderhostel is a national
program for people over 55 years of age interested in education
and adventure. Hundreds of sites affiliated with Elderhostel
are located throughout the world. Each site is unique to its
history and place, and provides opportunities to discover and
explore a country or region or pursue a theme of interest with
college level courses.
UNM-Taos has been host to Elderhostel since 1996. Since that
time we have offered over seventy programs rich in the history,
beauty and mystery of this region. Over a thousand participants
have visited Taos through our program from all over the US
and Canada. Our programs include lectures, field trips, live
entertainment and thoughtful dialogue about local history
and culture. Our programs embrace the Native American, Hispanic
and Anglo American experience in this crossroad of the Southwest.
Taos is located on the beautiful high mesas of northern New
Mexico, boardered on the north and east by the Sangre de Cristo
Mountains, the southern-most tip of the Rockies. At 7,000
feet we enjoy clear air, bright sunshine and star-filled nights!
"Thanks
for working whatever magic you do and did. I'll remember and
treasure this, my very first Elderhostel, and keep it in my
heart where I can go look at it now and then, when I need
some beauty or peace."- Karen Reagan
"I have been to over 23 Elderhostels,
and this is the best I have attended!" - from Evaluation
Form
"We still have nice memories of
Taos and the excellent Elderhostel course. The combination
of the Mabel Dodge House, local artists, the cooking, lectures
and Indian and Spanish cultures made a wonderful combination."-
Ed Feheley
